ASPEN (Access to Services Providing Essential Needs) is a comprehensive virtual tool designed to enhance access to community mental health resources in Missouri. This robust platform features a resource directory providing various community resources, along with unique behavioral health tools and virtual support services. These innovative tools have been meticulously developed to raise awareness about available resources and provide essential information to those seeking mental health support in the community.
“Individuals and families often run into obstacles when they try to get help for their child.
They may get six or seven voice prompts before reaching someone, and it can take three to four months to get an appointment. The resource directory is particularly helpful to parents when a child is in a high-stress crisis situation.”
– Steve Horn; Jefferson R-VII School District Principal

ASPEN Network Inc. is a non-profit focused on connecting people to resources and mental health tools. ASPEN includes an online resource directory and other tools.
The resource directory houses info for health and wellness, transportation, housing, elderly, food banks, and more! ASPEN staff work on a regular basis to check and update resources, keeping information as up-to-date as possible.
Communities continue to see rising mental health issues and a need for better ways to find resources. Mental health issues are seen throughout the country, including Missouri and the St. Louis region. Workgroups comprised of community members, providers, counselors and other agencies reviewed data and needs including the following:
ASPEN requests location permissions each time the user accesses certain features, like the resource directory.
In the case of ASPEN’s mobile-friendly resource directory the location service is used only to help users quickly find resources near them. The user can choose to grant permission for location information.
ASPEN does not store location information through the resource directory from these requests. If a user denies the location service request or simply doesn’t use the feature, no location information is accessed at all.
